Story of Me

This is Amber. Amber lives in an average home with a father, mother, and two sisters. Everyone would think, “Oh, that’s normal”, but ten years ago everything changed. Ten years ago Amber started to raise herself without the help and love from her mother.

The first thing that strikes you about Amber Dejesus is her smile. It's the kind of smile that craves for someone to look her way. The type of smile that makes everyone laughs, smiles, and filled with joy. She fills the hearts of the people with happiness and love. A smile that tells everyone that looks at her thinks there is nothing wrong and that her life is perfect. All this is achieved by one simple smile.

This story is about how everything changes from being perfect to being distorted. It is about how a cute, innocent child was once love but became neglected. It is about a young 7 year old who had a mother, but lost her over night. It is about the changes that she had to adjust to when her life changed. It is about how her mom went to a faraway place, even if not actually physically far. It is about how her mom becoming diagnosed with Schizophrenia.

Who is Amber? Amber is the youngest child out of six sibling, she is just a seven year old girl who doesn't know what the real world is like yet, she is the girl that still needs the support and love from her mommy.

It is 3:00 P.M., Seven year old Amber is home from school. Just as always she would walk in through the door and yell, “MOM, I AM HOME!” Her mom would usually respond back “OK, how was your day,” but this time is different. This time there was no response. Amber became worried when her mom didn’t respond back, so she went to go look for her mom throughout the house. She looked in the kitchen, the backyard, the bathroom, and the laundry room. All the places her mom would be around the time when Amber gotten home from school.

Of course, what makes Amber interesting is that no matter what happens in her life she will continue be happy even if her personal life is hell.
